Experience the Freedom You Already Have in Christ
A personal or small group study for very tired Christians
By Paula Neall Coleman, author of The Weight of Grace
If you are exhausted by trying harder and harder but never permanently or significantly experiencing progress in your battle with certain behaviors, thoughts, and/or emotions, you are likely very ready for the refreshing good news that is lovingly presented in this book and that has provided steps to permanent freedom to many tired, discouraged Christians.
See if you relate:
- You have tried harder and harder to overcome unwanted emotions or a pattern of negative behavior but never make much progress and often “relapse” or “backslide.”
- You feel God is disgusted with you for having so little self-control and for not getting your act together.
- You often feel stymied or defeated by such emotions as rage, depression, shame, anxiety, and/or loneliness.
- You have told yourself to be obedient to God and have berated yourself for your disobedience, but you just don’t ever change.
- You feel absolutely compelled to engage in a behavior you later regret, such as overeating, compulsive shopping, looking at pornography, binge-watching TV or videos, shoplifting, hair-pulling, face-picking, getting high, or drinking alcohol in excess. When the urge comes upon you, you know you’re eventually going to have to engage in that behavior or the tension will feel unbearable.
- You’ve resolved to read the Bible more, pray more, and attend church more regularly, but none of these activities have provided much help for what’s really bothering you.
Even more important than these points is whether you are open to considering a new way of thinking about yourself, your emotions, what motivates your behavior, and how God fits into these areas of your life. If that is true, you are certainly going to find a lot of freedom as a result of applying the concepts presented in this book.
